What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically placed into the jawbone. Made from biocompatible materials such as titanium or zirconia, the implant provides a stable foundation for a replacement tooth.

Why Are Dental Implants Important?

  • Preserves jawbone health: When a missing tooth isn’t replaced, the jawbone can begin to shrink, potentially altering the shape of your face.
  • Prevents teeth from shifting: A gap in the mouth can cause neighbouring teeth to move, leading to misalignment, difficulty chewing, and bite changes.
  • Restores your bite: Losing a tooth can affect how you bite, which may lead to headaches or other health issues.
  • Provides a natural look and function: Implants restore both the appearance and function of a tooth, allowing you to enjoy your favourite foods and feel confident in your smile again.

Types of Dental Implants and Procedures

Regain your confidence in your smile by choosing dental implants. Our dentists offer a wide range of implant solutions tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient.

Whether you need to replace one tooth or several, we will help you find the most suitable solution.

Titanium Implants
Titanium implants are the most commonly used type of dental implants. Titanium is a lightweight, durable, and biocompatible material that integrates well with the jawbone. These implants are highly resilient and long-lasting, making them a reliable choice for dental restoration.

Zirconia implants are made from a white ceramic material, which is aesthetically pleasing, particularly for front teeth. They are hypoallergenic and an excellent choice for individuals with sensitivities to metals. Zirconia also offers superb biocompatibility and is resistant to corrosion, making it a durable and reliable option.

Mini implants are smaller dental implants used in cases where the amount of jawbone is limited or when a full-sized implant isn’t necessary. They are a more cost-effective option and can be suitable for less demanding tooth replacement solutions. However, they may not be as durable as traditional implants.

Endosteal implants are the most commonly used type of implants, placed directly into the jawbone. They are suitable for patients with healthy and sufficient bone density. These implants provide a stable foundation for individual teeth or dentures.

Subperiosteal implants are placed above the jawbone but beneath the gum tissue. They are often used for patients who do not have enough bone to support traditional implants and who prefer to avoid bone grafting procedures.

If a tooth is lost, the bone is not loaded, bone breakdown (resorption) occurs in the empty space, resulting in a decrease in bone volume. If the patient wants to restore the lost tooth with a tooth implant, a jaw X-ray is performed before starting implantation to assess whether the existing bone volume in the patient's jaw is sufficient. If the bone is insufficient to insert an implant, artificial bone cultivation (transplantation) is performed. It is a procedure in which an artificial bone obtained from natural or artificial material is inserted at the required location. As a result of the procedure, a sufficient amount of bone tissue is provided to insert a tooth implant.

Sinus lift there is a procedure to increase the amount of bone tissue by lifting the adjacent cavity of the nose. The Sinus lift shall only be carried out on the upper jaw in the case of insufficient amounts of bone on the side of the upper jaw. First, the surgeon creates a small opening next to the outer wall of the cavity and lifts the adjacent cavity to the desired height. The established cavity shall be filled with the swelling material or a membrane shall be inserted in order to obtain the maximum possible amount of bone.

Fixed dental prosthesis supported by 4 or 6 implants. Thanks to the All On X system, patients can restore both aesthetics and function in just one day. It's an excellent solution for those who have lost all their teeth in one or both jaws.

Consultation

The need for a dental implant is assessed by the patient’s dentist, who refers the patient for a consultation with an oral, maxillofacial, and jaw surgeon. Each patient's case is evaluated individually by the surgeon, and the decision often depends on the condition of the patient's mouth, teeth, and jawbone. A crucial part of implant planning is a 3D (three-dimensional) X-ray, which allows the specialist to assess the positioning of the patient’s tooth roots, the condition and thickness of the bone, and aids in planning the direction, type, length, and diameter of the implant.

During the consultation, the surgeon informs the patient about any additional tests required and the stages of the implantology process.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically placed into the jawbone. Made from biocompatible materials such as titanium or zirconia, the implant provides a stable foundation for a replacement tooth.

Why choose dental implants?

  • Natural appearance: Your smile becomes more confident and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Longevity: With proper care, implants can last for many years.
  • Comfort: Implants function just like natural teeth – eat, speak, and laugh without restrictions.
  • Stability: Unlike dentures, implants don’t slip, giving you a secure feeling.

A dental implant looks just like a natural tooth. It has an artificial root that is inserted into the jawbone, and a crown or a stabilised removable denture is attached to it, resembling a real tooth in both appearance and function.

How does it work? The implant consists of two parts:

  • Titanium root: It is precisely placed into the jawbone, where over time it fuses, providing a stable foundation.
  • Ceramic crown: This is the visible part that is custom-made to match the colour and shape of the patient's teeth.
  • A dental crown on an implant is so similar to a natural tooth that even the patient won’t be able to tell the difference from their real tooth.

The cost of dental implants can vary depending on the number of implants required, the complexity of the treatment, and the materials used. The exact price can be determined by contacting us,as well as review the procedure costs in our price list.

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. This means that by visiting your dentist regularly and maintaining good oral hygiene, your implants will remain a reliable companion for many years to come.

Why are dental implants so durable?

  • Artificial tooth root: The implant is integrated into the jawbone, providing a stable foundation.
  • High-quality materials: The materials used today are biocompatible and extremely durable.
  • Proper Care: Just like natural teeth, implants need to be cleaned regularly, with visits to the dental hygienist at least twice a year and the dentist at least once a year.

The implant placement procedure typically takes around one to two hours, but the healing period can last several months for the implant to fully integrate with the bone.

For most patients, the placement of dental implants occurs in two stages. First, the implants are gently inserted into the jawbone. During the first three to six months after the procedure, the implants integrate with the jawbone, providing a stable foundation for the artificial tooth. In some cases, during the healing period, the gap left by the missing tooth is temporarily filled with a provisional tooth as a temporary solution.

Once the implant has fully integrated with the jawbone, the second phase begins. If the tooth was exposed during surgery, the patient can proceed with the prosthetic restoration after 4 to 6 months. However, if the implant is uncovered after 4 to 6 months, the second phase involves the patient first visiting the surgeon to uncover the implant. Only then can they see the dental prosthetist for the final tooth restoration on the implant.

What is immediate implantation?

In certain cases, the surgeon evaluates a 3D (computer tomography) scan before tooth extraction and, if there is sufficient bone volume, decides to place the implant immediately after the extraction. Immediate implantation significantly reduces treatment time and helps to minimise the loss of both soft and hard tissues.

Immediate implantation reduces the overall treatment time to as little as 6 months.

The procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic, so the patient should not feel any pain. After the procedure, there may be some minor discomfort, which usually subsides within a few days.

For the next few days, stick to soft foods that are gentle on your mouth. Think mashed potatoes, yogurt, or soup. Avoid anything too hot or crunchy, as this might irritate the healing area.

After healing, you can return to your usual diet.

After immediate implant placement, it is essential to ensure thorough oral care: cleaning, while adhering to SOLO prophylaxis. The surgeon will recommend a mouthwash suited to your specific needs.
